This whole project, the poem, the video, the website has been created for animals in need. Too many Irish charities and shelters are underfunded and can barely afford supplies, treatments, food and especially not promo videos. So this film is for them to use, entirely free for the promotion of animal adoption and fostering across Ireland.
It has the support of a lot of charities and shelter but it isn't tied to any one shelter or charity. It's a national adoption campaign, for every rescue and animal charity in Ireland.
Adopt or foster, locally or nationally. Animals are out there waiting. #DontBeAStranger
Anyone can use it: rescues, pounds, vets, schools, events and the press. Email us and we'll send you the file.
Some are hairy, some are scruffy, / some are trimmed, and some are fluffy. / Some come bouncing off the wall, / some won't come to you at all. // Some are trusting from the get go, / some take weeks to say hello. / Some of them are always good, / some are just misunderstood. // Some are big and some are small, / some are short but think they're tall. / Some have hair that's going grey, / some have barely seen a day. // Some are quiet as a mouse, / some could bark down half the house. / Some are easy on the lead, / some walk you at twice the speed. // Some have three good legs, and still / beat the four legged ones downhill / Some came in here with a name, / some came in with none to claim. // Some were loved once, you can tell. / Some have yet to learn that well. / Some have waited weeks, and some / have watched a thousand strangers come. // Whatever coat, whatever size, / you can see it in their eyes. / Not one of them is asking much / a name, a walk, a toy, a touch. // Every one of them's the same: / They’re worth a bed, a bowl, a name. / All they want is for you to say: / “You’re coming home with me today”
Interviews, film clips, stills and the full press kit are available on request.
“It started as a poem. I didn’t know what to do with it for a long time, but it was always in the back of my mind. Then it turned into a video and now it has grown into a video campaign. I hope it will encourage people across Ireland, north and south, to adopt or foster rescue animals.”
1000 Strangers began as a poem and grew into a video campaign encouraging people across Ireland, north and south, to adopt or foster rescue animals. Many Irish rescues are underfunded and can't afford to promote themselves, so the video is free for any rescue or shelter to use. The website lists rescues, shelters and council pounds in all 32 counties, with donate links and cruelty helplines. It also has a plain guide to adopting, fostering and volunteering, what to do if you lose or find a pet, and the published figures on how many dogs enter Irish pounds each year and who pays for rescue. The project is independent, not tied to any charity, and was made by David Kelly of Lukewarm Volcano. www.1000strangers.com
